The foundation of the MacGriff Writing Studio is the individual lesson, which is offered in two 8-week sessions per academic year. Students meet with our writing guide once/week for one hour/lesson. Each session begins with a review of the students literary and writing interests and goals. The remaining sessions are tailored toward developing these, exposure to new writers and experimentation with different forms. Each lesson is followed with written feedback, suggested edits and recommended reading from our writing guide.
If students enroll in the lessons plus package, they also receive access to a monthly book club, weekly newsletter and personalized Moleskin notebook. Additional lessons are available to purchase on an individual basis. At the end of each session, there will be a student led reading event held locally in Grosse Pointe.
The Studio holds two 2-week summer sessions, which are conducted in a group workshop setting. Students spend 3 days a week for 4 hours/day responding to writing prompts, discussing assigned readings, workshopping individual pieces and collaboratively building new worlds/characters. Please reach out regarding upcoming dates, enrollment and further details.
